2019年11月7日、ドイツのフンボルト博物館で開催されたBerlin Science Week (BSW) 2019 にて、東北大学・知の創出センターが主催するセッション“Mathematics nowhere – everywhere”で、数理科学と材料科学の接点をテーマにした一般向け英語講演を行いました。
BSW は、大学や企業に属する様々な分野の専門家が講演を行い、参加した市民とのディスカッションを通じて、自然科学およびその関連分野を広く理解してもらおうという主旨で毎年行われています。10日間の開催期間中、様々なパラレルセッションが行われましたが、本セッションは特に数学に焦点を当てたこともあり、参加者の中には現役の大学院生や研究者の方も多くおられました。
講演では、数学が材料(特にソフトマター)に対してどの様に応用されているか、東北大学・数理科学連携研究センターにおける取り組みを中心に、数値計算の動画を交えた解り易い説明を行いました。また、講演後のパネルディスカッションでは、参加者からの質問を受け付け、意見交換を行うなど、アウトリーチ活動としても非常に充実した内容になりました。
今回、BSWに参加するため、数理科学連携研究センターより多大な援助を頂いた事に感謝致します。
