Tohoku University URA Association Special Seminar "University-Collaborative CCRC: The Key Points and Ways to Success"

Information

CCRCs (Continuing Care Retirement Communities) are communities that can provide continuous aging care for independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. In the U.S., there are about 2,000 CCRCs with about 700,000 residents and a market size of about 4 trillion yen. In recent years, many good examples of Japanese CCRCs, both government- and private-sector-led, have been developed across the country, and university-collaborative CCRCs are expected to have multifaceted effects: (1) recurrent education, (2) cross-disciplinary research, (3) contribution to the local community, (4) benefits for the graduates, (5) branding, and (6) new revenue-generating businesses. In this seminar, Tomoo Matsuda, Chief Researcher at Mitsubishi Research Institute, who has been advocating the advantages of CCRCs since 2010, will report on the current state and future of university-collaborative CCRCs, including good examples from Japan and overseas as well as recent policy trends.
