Information

Prof. Steinhardt is a theoretical physicist renowned for his contributions to the development of inflationary cosmology and his subsequent proposal of the ekpyrotic cosmology that has been incorporated into the theory of cyclic universe, a possible new paradigm of cosmology. He is also famous in materials science and engineering for introducing and developing the concept of quasicrystals as a new class of solids with long-range quasiperiodic order. Guided by his endless spirit of inquiry, he has been working on a wide range of related topics ranging from the growth problem of quasicrystals, the potential application of quasicrystals as photonic band-gap materials, ten-fold quasiperiodic patterns in medieval Islamic architecture, to hyperuniformity in quasiperiodic patterns.
