[CANCELED] Once upon a time in Kamchatka: The Fantastic Quest for Natural Quasicrystals

* This event has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Information

Prof. Steinhardt is a theoretical physicist renowned for his contributions to the development of inflationary cosmology and his subsequent proposal of the ekpyrotic cosmology that has been incorporated into the theory of cyclic universe, a possible new paradigm of cosmology. He is also famous in materials science and engineering for introducing and developing the concept of quasicrystals as a new class of solids with long–range quasiperiodic order. Guided by his endless spirit of inquiry, he has been working on a wide range of related topics ranging from the growth problem of quasicrystals, the potential application of quasicrystals as photonic band–gap materials, ten–fold quasiperiodic patterns in medieval Islamic architecture, to hyperuniformity in quasiperiodic patterns.
