Fourth Seminar on Tohoku University Research DX Strategy
Information
In recent years, there has been a call for the promotion of "open science" as a social infrastructure for science and technology. In line with such national policies, many funding agencies are also increasingly calling for open access to their results as part of their accountability to the taxpayers who are the source of their funds. However, the movement toward open access of papers is only a small part of the larger concept of open science, and it also has the potential to change the current research cycle itself, in which research is funded by specific funding agencies. In this talk, we will discuss the decentralized science movement and a bit of the future of academia, where researchers are incentivized to promote open science themselves through blockchain technologies such as smart contracts and non-fundable tokens (NFTs), which seemingly have nothing to do with the research world.
