The Tohoku region was extremely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011. Since then, Tohoku University has been committed to research on disaster prevention and mitigation in order to share the knowledge gained from the 3/11 experience with the rest of the world and to apply it to the benefit of future generations. The following lectures will help you understand how far research on disaster prevention and mitigation has progressed, not only in the Tohoku region, but also in Japan and around the world
