TFC×AXA Collaboration Program on Social Innovations in Insurance in the Digital Society

Program Theme

In order to contribute to the development of society through technological innovation, it is urgent to set up a "plaza" where experts across the humanities and sciences can gather to discuss crucial issues from their various perspectives.

In this newly launched program, we plan to situate the main axis of discussion on social issues. This is a broad area which we will first investigate by recognizing, categorizing, and generalizing social issues, because a university has a function to recognize such social issues as its academic subjects. Recognizing social issues, especially in the Tohoku region, which has experienced a major earthquake, is extremely important.

With this background, AXA and Tohoku University's Tohoku Forum for Creativity will collaborate to create a virtual and in–person plaza to formulate a program of "social issues identification" and the role of the insurance industry, centered on the motto "Digital Society and Insurance Innovation".

As part of this program, we will encourage students' interests in improving their skills in data science and machine learning, and simultaneously increase their understanding of the social mechanism of insurance. We will provide a suitable plaza for students, researchers and AXA personnel to collaboratively approach these social issues.
