Research Forum: Lightning Resistant Metal Coating Technology on CFRP Assisted by Kinetic, Physical and Chemical Energies

Information

Aircrafts are shifting from conventional aluminum alloys to lightweight CFRP to improve fuel efficiency. However, CFRP has low electrical conductivity and may be damaged or destroyed by lightning currents during flight. For this reason, metal meshes are applied to CFRP to add conductivity. However, the installation of metal mesh is not effective from the viewpoint of cost and working time etc. Therefore, the development of a technology that can add conductivity as easily as possible is awaited. In this forum, we will discuss the application of conductivelayer for the CFRP, lightning resistance characteristics, and nondestructive evaluation techniques etc.
