Future Society Design Program

Contributions of XR Technology to Education and Society: The Metaverse and International Collaborative Creation

Program Theme

In the near future, it is hoped that anyone may be able to learn without restrictions on time and location. Extended Reality (XR) Technology presents an opportunity for education by removing these physical constraints. In addition, XR can spread beyond education, from international industry–academia collaboration to exploring social issues from a new perspective such as realization of a sustainable society and the aging of society with a declining birthrate. Recently, the Metaverse has garnered much attention as a rising XR technology.
This program envisions a future in which Metaverse is socially widespread, with the goal of fostering skill development as well as increasing the versatility of human exchange. Researchers and business professionals from a wide range of fields will be invited to examine the ways in which XR technology and the Metaverse can contribute to education and society, and to make recommendations regarding any related issues.
